Off the scale!

...

...

Surfer blonde, messy. But: Tully speaks!
No Dietrich.
Guest Cast:
John Doucette as Marston
Robert Palmer as Phillips

Writer: Ronald Rossi
Director: Lee H. Katzin

commentary: Moffitt and Tully allow themselves to be captured so that they can get information from Craig -- an American POW -- about Rommel's new battle plans. However, Marston, another POW, tells them that Craig died. Dr. Phillips -- the camp medic -- supposedly has some information about the plan, though. When the medic treats Moffitt's arm he puts the code name of the mission on the underside of the bandage : Operation Nachtigall. However, it soon becomes obvious that either Phillips or Marston is a traitor and it is up to the Patrol to figure out which, as they are both now giving the Patrol conflicting information.

Jan's Notes: aka No one will talk code with me!

Special, special treat for me. Tully has a major part in this episode. Guess who my favourite is? Also, for those who are Moffitt watchers, the Moffitmeter is off the chart. His shirt is nicely unbuttoned. Had a lesson from Hitch. He also loses his ascot between being captured and showing up the POW way station. Guess some admiring German wanting to imitate Moffitt's style consficated it.

Tully's hair is still surfer blonde and messy since he keeps his helmet on for most of the show, even during exercise class. What would they have done without 10-B-X. Oops, is that a Canadian Armed Forces exercise program only?

Hitch's shirt: Who cares?

No Dietrich: No golden heart award.

This show centres around Moffitt and Tully trying to find out the details of a surprise assault being planned by Rommel, the details of which were found out by Craig who then died in this POW camp. The two main players are Joe Marsden a cabbie (from New York?) who is very proud of this fact and still tries to pick up fares even though he doesn't have a cab. He must have been a tourist's nightmare... and Doc Philips who treats all kinds in his hospital tent. Who knows the secret?

After learning that Craig is dead, Moffitt figures that he will have to take a chance on there being no nasty Gestapo spies in the camp and talk to all the POWs hoping that Craig let one of them in on the secret.

Moffitt makes Tully do horrible exercises while he explains why Tully and he are there. Then they spent the rest of the day and night hoping someone will come up and whisper sweet codes in their ear. Big problem. All those POWs probably think Moffitt and Tully are nasty Gestapo spies and "avoid them like the plague" (Tully's words not mine).

Finally Moffitt decides to take his bandage off, and lo and behold show the secret code words. Doc Philips wins the Final Jeopardy round. Or does he? While Tully is playing sick, groaning up a storm, Joe Marsden utters the correct question also. So now, where there was none, now there is one too many. Just then Troy and Hitch, who have been lurking behind sand dunes all this time, burst in to take the guys out. So Marsden and Philips go with them and the Germans chase after them with one of those cherry picker contraptions.

The jeep gets stuck in a sand dune and Hitch does his utmost best to cover Moffitt completely in sand. Where did Hitch learn to drive? Spinning his wheels like an absolute idiot. Wouldn't it have made more sense to put the jeep in neutral, let the vehicle roll down the dune and try again, this time without the weight of five extra men. Or am I all wrong?

Anyways, while they try valiantly to unstuck the Jeep, Moffitt decides to mess with everyone's minds and says they should surrender. The look on Tully's face when Moffitt hands him the white sheet (where did that come from?) and tells him to make a truce flag out of it is simply priceless. Troy throws him a pretty good look also. Of course, this is variation on the game "To tell the Truth" -- Will the real holder of Craig's secret please stand up? Or, rather, run away. Moffitt's gamble pays off, Marsden makes a break and Doc Philips reveals himself as the despciable Gestapo plant ... and Troy shoots him.

Another nasty Doctor -- so far that makes two and I know there are more to come.

Tully has two actual converstions using sentences that are more that two words long. In fact, I think he used up all his words for the next two episodes. Some great close ups, and we get see that great smile of his. I'm having another moment. Got to go!
